'Libra' by JOHFRA Bosschart
is considered a "masculine", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered an air sign and is one of four cardinal signs. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus - which also rules Taurus. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun enters Libra around September 23-24 and exits around October 22-23. Under the sidereal zodiac, it ends on November 15. Libra, (The Scales of Balance), is the only symbol of the zodiac that is inanimate (it is not represented by an animal or person).
Libra is the sign of marriage and partnership. Above all in life, they seek harmony. Their approach to life is essentially intellectual and they are capable of great mental detachment. Librans are always charming and popular socially. These people always want to please other people and be liked by them. It is quite easy for Librans to put their own opinions, needs and ambitions on hold in order to fit in with those around them. They are constantly trying to find a balance in life and do this by means of their associations with others. Their ability to see both sides of an issue and their strong sense of justice make it very difficult for Librans to actually make a decision or commit themselves.
The Libran ability to be a friend to everyone can sometimes smack of hypocrisy. They value tact more than honesty. They can also be totally indecisive and their love of the good things in life can make them lazy and self-indulgent. Librans are very suited to careers in law, public relations and diplomacy. In these areas, they can use their considerable intellect and analytical ability and are capable of making judgements in a detached and objective way. Librans may also be attracted to careers in the arts or selling luxury goods where they can use their strong sense of colour and form. In marriage, the Librans' natural ability to mediate and compromise is a great virtue. They will create a gracious home. Cultivation of the opposite sign's, Aries, qualities of decisive action and courage, would enable Librans to approach life with a greater sense of purpose and deal with others more honestly.

Mythology
In mythology Libra is often associated with the Greek Goddess of Justice, Themis, the Greek mythological figure of Atalanta (meaning balanced), and Astraea (daughter of Themis), who ascended to heaven and became the constellation of Virgo, and carried the scales of justice, the nearby constellation of Libra.
Libra is also associated with the Greco-Roman goddess Aphrodite/Venus and sometimes also the goddesses Eris/Discordia, along with Hermione/Concordia, Hera/Juno, Ishtar, Freyja and Frigg, and the Aztec god Xolotl.
The astrological symbol for Libra represents the scales. Many modern astrologers regard it as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the zenith of the year, the high point of the seasons, when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped.
